NEW YORK (Reuters) - Citigroup Inc (C.N: Quote, Profile, Research)

$16 billion of write-downs and costs related to credit losses, and said
it will cut another 9,000 jobs.
Though the $5.11 billion first-quarter loss was larger than expected,
analysts and investors expressed optimism that the largest U.S. bank and
its new chief executive, Vikram Pandit, were taking necessary steps to
move past credit problems and drive down costs.

the 150-page schematic is marked: "Secure Document — Confidential."
The documents are dated Oct. 5, 2007. They contain plans for each floor,
the thickness of the concrete-core wall, and the location of air ducts,
elevators, electrical systems and support columns.

Israel to build 100 settlement homes, including in West Bank
Friday, 18 April 2008 11:44
JERUSALEM (AP) - The Israeli government revealed plans Friday to build
100 homes in two Jewish settlements - one of them deep in the West Bank
- in violation of its pledge to freeze settlement expansion.
Palestinian officials said the new construction in the settlements of
Ariel and Elkana is undermining U.S.-backed efforts to reach a peace
deal by the end of 2008.
Since a U.S.-hosted Mideast peace conference in November, Israel has
announced several new building projects in areas of Jerusalem claimed by
the Palestinians for their future state. However, Friday's announcement
marked the first time the Israeli government approved construction deep
in the West Bank.

Airline executives and regulators often switch places
Friday, 18 April 2008 11:41
WASHINGTON (AP) - What the airline industry wants from Washington it
often gets, and no wonder. The people who regulate airlines on one day
can become company executives the next - and the other way around.
Industry leaders who were once under the Federal Aviation
Administration's authority now sit in top positions at the agency. Many
former FAA officials and congressional aides have found lucrative jobs
in the air travel industry or with its lobbying groups. One top official
left the FAA two years ago to become the airline industry's top lobbyist.
