I'll stick with Nortons, Guzzis, and Beemers, thank you.

Scooters have always seemed just to gaye to me. There is something
about that feet forward riding position with nothing to grip with your
knees that seems to be a violation of one of the Basic Laws of nature.

My old workhorse is an '89 Honda Baja, purchased new, which has made
it's way down several mountainsides on its own. I have preferred
stepping off when encountering a washed out road bed on some of the less
used rindou, which is far better than riding it down the mountainside.
But, I also love the Honda Benly 90 which has the same engine as the
step-through Cub and is nearly indestructible.

My big proposal to the Iron Butt Association for the 2008 riding season
is a Japanese version of the 50cc -- theirs is US or Canada Coast to
Coast in 50 hours and I proposed a nonstop Shimokita-hanto (Tsugaru) to
Dannoura on 50cc Honda Cubs or Suzuki Birdys following only two-lane
roads. I figure the levels of abuse are almost equal. A big bore bike
can only make good time on the kousoku and that just becomes a matter of
who can afford the tolls. Also want to plan out a Japan equivalent of
the Channel-John o'Groats ride, too. Say, the northernmost point statue
on Hokkaido to Sakurajima if there is some way to handle the Tsugaru
crossing.

There are several good road routes as well as several rindou that cross
the tops of the ridges through the Fuji Lakes that are a lot more fun on
weekdays when the Rankuru, Jimny, and Pajero folks are back at work.
