A recovery CD/DVD is not the same as a Windows CD. The recovery disk has an
image file, and sometimes they can be a bugger to install, no matter what
make of computer. If you have a full install disk for another computer, try
it on the laptop. If it installs, go out and buy an XP CD for the laptop.
With a new version of Windows coming out in a few weeks, some stores like
Staples, are discounting the price of XP. When I installed a different hard
drive in my P10, the restore disk would no longer load. I purchased a new
copy of XP Home, and it works like a charm. Of course, I lost all of the
media stuff, but who cares!
