Do you really need a BS antenna for NHK? If you get SkyPerfecTV and pay
around 3000 to 4000 yen/month you get everything you need! I think it even
carries the 2 NHK BS channels. You DO NOT NEED to pay NHK, whatever bullshit
they will tell you!!!
For the money I quoted, I get BBC, CNN, Discover Ch., History Ch., Animal
Ch., several movie channels, and tons of channels which cater to things that
don't interest me.
There is also Cable TV (various providers). Some provide you the tuner for
free, but you need to check whether they carry the channels on your wish
list. Satellit TV is weather dependant (heavy rain or snow will disable its
reception, but the program choice is larger).
Hope this helps and saves your pocket money.

PS: By the way, where did you get your information? This must have been a
rip-off shop which wanted to get rid of old equipment. Many years ago when
satellite TV was introduced, prices like yours were the reality.
