I may be wrong (its late, and I'm emptying a keg that would otherwise 
have to be poured down the sink tomorrow), but I think Germany and Italy 
declared war on the US in December 1941. a few days after Pearl Harbour 
or thereabouts. The "tripartite" agreement thingee was a year earlier 
though.
