Hi Stuart,
The Japanese post office can and will do it easily enough, though you
will need to take ID with you, and it may take some time. An easier way
to bring funds for personal use is traveller's cheques (TCs) and/or a
debit/credit card (cirrus network etc). If obtaining TCs, IMOs etc are
difficult to do in Colorado, or if you prefer not to use a card, another
option is to wire transfer some funds the same Yamasa account you used
for the tuition transfer, and then "withdraw" the funds on arrival. If
the last is your preference, send me an email first though.
The most flexible way would be to use TCs. Cheapest way to transfer
funds would be telegraphic transfer.
