I stayed in that area a couple of years ago; I'll see if I can't find
the name of the place, though it was more of a hotel onsen than ryokan.

Atami might be a bit crowded at times (it's an onsen resort town), but I
kinda like the feel of the place. There are a couple of nice places just
down the Izu Penninsula, but these might be too far.
Have you checked in the town of Narita itself?
