The curious thing is, total healthcare spending in UK and Japan is very similar (as a % of GDP) and the vast amount of waste in Japan is clear to see wherever you turn. However, despite this, they also manage to have (ffor example) 4x as many hospital beds per capita as the UK (yes, really 4x) and the UK has fewer GPs than just about every other country in the developed world. I don't know where all the money goes in the UK, or alternatively there is a lot of hidden funding in Japan (I wonder how the cost of these health checks is accounted for).
