No he *was* not. Morita was born and grew up in Tokoname on the Chita
Peninsula in Aichi. His family brewed, and they still do, some damn fine
tasting sake. If I thought you were sane, I'd invite you over to drink
some of it. He did graduate from Osaka Imperial University though - in
physics. However with no disrespect intended regarding his achievements
at Sony, I think it was lucky that his brother was prepared to take over
at the brewery.
