I *think* I remember hearing recently that Japan was in charge of
making a good number
of those touch panel thingies found in iPhones and other things. They
tend to claim they
make a lot of little bitty things that are "really important" parts of
the whole thing.
The manufacturing plants themselves might be outsourced, of course.
