When I lived in God's country, I used to rent Japanese dramas on video quite
often.
There were a couple reasons for this. First, I could watch on my own
schedule, and skip the commercials. Also, the dramas actually had a story,
which however sappy or contrived, equalled or bested the stuff put out by
hollywood. Stuff like "Long Vacation", "Dare ni mo ienai", "Kaze ni
naritai", "Coach", "Umi made 5 fun" -- I actually enjoyed these.
Today, however, I just about never watch Japanese or American TV. Even the
selection at the video store is getting less appealing. I guess this could
be a case of the entertainment execs shifting their focus to the younger
generations, leaving us to adapt or be un-entertained.
