Check your charger specs. Will the Australian charger handle input voltage
from 100 to 240V AC? If so, all you need is an adaptor for the plug. Japan
uses two flat-pronged parallel terminals on the plug (similar to Australian
plugs, but not "angled in"). The American charger should work. America works
on 110V AC, but should still work OK at 100V. Refer to
http://www.korjo.com.au/ and click on "adapter guide". Particularly for
Japan: http://tinyurl.com/6ozlb

If you must bring your Aussie charger and it will not handle from 100V
through to 240V, then you will need a step-up voltage transformer. However I
think it might be easier to source another charger in Japan, rather than
carting around transformers.
