Yep. It started out as a school for the children of missionaries. I was a
little leery of their curriculum (bible class in the 1st grade?), but hey, I
went to Catholic school for most of elementary and it didn't screw me up
*too* badly. And they do teach evolution, so they're not exactly a bunch of
loonies.

The homepage is new, the school isn't. The school has been around for 40-odd
years.
Naturally most of the Americans here are SOFA status, so they have the
option of sending their kids to free English-speaking schools on base. A lot
of the student body is made up of kids from countries other than Japan or
the US. There are also Americans, "Eurasian" kids, and Japanese kids whose
parents want to send them to an all-English school for whatever reason. Now
that the school is accredited with Monbusho, I suppose this last group will
grow a bit.
In the United States, they might ask for race as a way of getting public
funding. But as this school naturally gets no US govt. money, it seems just
force of habit. It does serve to show a decidedly American bent to the way
things are run, though.
