They appear in Japanese if the "Language for non-Unicode programs" selected
under the Advanced menu tab of the Regional and Language Options is
Japanese.

As far as printing is concerned any printer manufactered in the last four
years will come with drivers that appear in the same language as the system
language. I've bought 4 Epson inkjet printers in that time and the drivers
and print dialog boxes all appear in English. My Epson scanner was a little
more difficult - it's a Japanese Epson 9700 but I use either a US or UK
Twain driver which detects it as an Epson 2450 model - which is no problem -
it still works perfectly.
The one moan I have is the 'print direct to CD' software that ships with the
Epson printers. I can get excellent results but can't find an English
language version of the software at any of the Epson sites - well I did find
one copy at Epson Russia - but of course it wasn't in English. Anyway I now
use Acoustica CD Label Maker which works fine - but I have to know what my
printer model name is in the US for layout purposes. IMHO it pays to get a
top-of-the-line printer - my PM4000X is now over 2 years old and you can
still buy it new! That is amazing in Japan. But it seems that such models
are more likely to be sold internationally. But again - it's not a driver
issue, just a 3rd party software compatibility problem.
BTW do you need to use Japanese MS Word instead of the regular version? The
last line of my previous post should answer all your questions.
