Manchester United bosses sent their condolences to the family and friends of Frank Taylor, who was badly injured in the 1958 tragedy which claimed 23 lives. The sportswriter, who died on Thursday after a long battle against cancer, was described as a ``lovely, warm, articulate and gently-spoken man'' and a ``close and valued friend of the club''. A respected journalist, who worked for the Daily Mirror and was president of the International Federation of Sportswriters in his later years, Taylor wrote numerous books and was awarded the OBE. The sports reporter, then writing for the News Chronicle, regularly travelled to Europe with the so-called Busby Babes in the 1950s, and was on board the plane which crashed in Munich in February 1958. Twenty-three people lost their lives in the disaster, including eight Manchester United players, three backroom staff and eight journalists. Taylor later published what has been described as a ``definitive account'' of the tragedy The Day A Team Died. Cliff Butler, editor of United Review, said Taylor had contributed regularly to club publications dedicated to the disaster, adding: ``Frank Taylor will be greatly missed by everyone who touched his life.'' In a statement the club said: ``Manchester United would like to extend its deepest condolences to Frank's family and friends.'' end 201026 JUL 02 Health Happiness and Pecae into the New Millennium, Paddy, Marie, Helen Lara and Mark Murphy
