Admittedly I don't know much about the UK nowadays, but 20-odd years ago
it was usual for companies to require a doctor's certificate to justify
sick days. So if you felt so lousy you didn't feel like going to work,
you had to drag yourself down to the doctor's clinic and get hir to sign
a "note" for you....
