OK, well I seem to have two problems now. I’ve got Japanese input
working on my wordprocessor programme, and it’s set to hiragana, but
the kana are inputted directly. That is, on my keyboard, Q becomes た
if I switch to Japanese mode. Previously, I would type TA and it would
convert to た. I’m sure there must be a way to toggle between these two
keyboard input methods, but I don’t know how to do it.

The second problem is that if I try to type in Japanese into the
message field on Google groups it won’t recognise Japanese input at
all, and some of the keys have funny values (for example, “ shows up
as @).

Any help with either of these two problems much appreciated.
