There is an international standard that every OECD country uses to
calculate the number of employment, and yes Australia has objected to
the 1 hour of paid employment being in employment definition.
Unfortunately, there must be a general consensus by all members to
change the statistics.
Further in Australia Unemployment figures are not a count of those
collecting unemployment benefits, but a census of 6000 people within
Australia every month who are asked if they are employed or not.
The figures are somewhat fudged because
Homeless people arent polled and generally the very affluent, the
private, the couldnt give a damn etc refuse to partake in these polls.
