I haven't been to Nagoya in years, but my guess is that even though
it's a major city you'll still find train stations that don't have
escalators, or have them in only one way. It has only been a short
while since Japan started to make the move to accomodate physical
handicaps. But I don't think you'll have problems that you can't
encounter in Europe as well. My guess is you'd do well to find a group
(such as Paul's suggestion) and get their advice, just to make sure you
don't get a great, handicap-accessible room that is near a station
without a working escalator. You should also visit www.tripadvisor.com
and post your question in the forum there for Japan; they're a very
helpful bunch and will often do much of the research legwork for you,
which is useful if you don't know Japanese.
