That's what I was figuring as well. The single Japanese person I've
asked (my lovely BYJW) seems to believe it's legal to hire based on age
(particularly for English teaching positions), but that might be an
assumption because it is so obviously happening.
My guess is that were a person to apply for such a position that
qualifications might bear more weight than age; being good looking
wouldn't hurt either (but that's a different pet peeve). ;)
