Re: How the world has changed
My sprog is still a bit too young for the silliness of Facebook (thankfully) and I doubt I would allow it. The spouse has an account, I refuse to get one (I have a mixi one but don't update it at all. Just anti-social, I guess.) I have numerous nephews and nieces that the spouse has Friended and some of the stupid things they put on their pages and walls (or whatever the correct terminology is) is just frightening! No child of MINE is going to be allowed to do that!
While I can respect some of the "forward thinking" of the teach to assign a "Facebook" assignment, I think it is a pretty stupid/dangerous/WTF?!? sort of assignment. No child of MINE etc. etc. etc.
You'd have thought the school would have issued a parental permission slip requirement for signing up for FB. At the very least, I would certainly want not only the students but the TEACHERS to go through several hours of online privacy/data protection training before they even THINK of allowing such nonsense to go on.
It is one thing if it is in an isolated school network that has no chance of contacting the "real" world but another thing entirely if you can reach (and are required to be on) the wide woolly world of the Internet.
Hrmm...maybe there is a business opportunity there. Teaching online safety and setting up school Intranets....I bet the sprog would be willing to help with that....Hrmm...
