I'm going to agree with Disaster in saying Rei's soul is in /Rei/. Hell,
it's not even /her/ soul, in a way. Well, it is. I'm stopping on that before
I confuse myself.

I always attributed Rei's refusal to sacrifice herself to her unwavering
obedience to Gendou (until EoE, of course). He won't allow her to die, so
she's not going to die. He needs her for other uses. Like to grope and
stuff. (Taryn watching EoE for the first time with her friend Kerri, "Hey,
you're not seriously going to--ohmygod, don't touch her THERE!" And thus
commenced much Gendou bashing. We knew it was coming, but we still hate
him.)
