Not at all. The locals never liked the transportation. If you 
looked at the records of that period, you'd see agitation against
it from the beginning.

The attitude that countries like Australia and New Zealand are available
for dumping criminals is strangely persistent. A couple of years ago
a UK Home Office spokesman said they were exploring resettling the
killers in the Bolger murder case in Australia or New Zealand. This
was, of course, news to the governments of both countries, who quickly
dismissed the notion. The NZ prime minister, Helen Clark, said she
thought the Brits would have grown out of that sort of attitude by
now.
