the NEW english audio dub sucks. the voices are crap, and they even
removed some dialogue (and other things). same goes for disc/volume 2.

ADV has done the same crap as pioneer did with the newer dub release
of akira.

the commentary you speak of is from the new voice actors, and they
suck, as stated in the above.

however the japanese 5.1 is quite nice if you have a surround system,
and they changed the subtitles slightly, to give it more meaning and
emotion. they also remastered the video as well.

now, whether or not the above features warrant buying a whole new
boxset, is up to the person that has the money.

how to make your choice? my recommendation, if you don't already own
the prior box set is:
if you have a surround system, OR you don't bother with english dubs,
get the platinum collection, as it slowly comes out, or get the entire
boxset when they do a release, probably sometime in mid-late 2005, if
there are no delays. volume 3 comes out in november.

if you DO NOT have a surround system or you prefer english dubwork,
get the older boxset.

besides, who the hell wants to watch eva dubbed?...ever heard of
learning how to read?

plainly put, watching eva subbed is like reading a interactive comic
book. has much more effect in the long run, like reading the book of a
movie, versus watching the actual movie.

everyone has different opinions, so choose whatever you wish.
