The suggested site only gave a list of manuals
without offering a path to them, unless I'm not
reading it correctly, so I'm just as stuck.

That would be excellent! Please please email 
me the manual if you can find it. I'm certain
that once I've managed to safely strip it down
to the circuit board I'll have a good chance in
finding the fault.
