I've been working on a friend's computer--they had (no exaggeration) 1200
pieces of spyware and numerous viruses.  I ultimately had to reformat their
hard drive, install security software etc.

However, their Outlook Express would receive but not send e-mail.  I tried
the following:
--making sure OE was configured properly in every respect
--pinging SMTP (it receives fine)
--removing anti-virus software
--doing ANOTHER reformat, and this time loading no software at all, no
firewalls, etc.

Does anyone out there have any ideas?
