Just a suggestion (my time is limited right now so this won't be as fully
thought out as I might like - just tossing this out as a discussion point):

Let's look at this from a different perspective.

HDTV = 19x9 + digital audio + 720p or 1080i

The current max support is for 480p.

They currently use low capacity, proprietary discs (showed their limitations
with RE4 and TW Golf - i.e., multiple discs needed).

A MAJOR part of their business is in portable systems.

If they were to support HD with their next gen system, they will need heavy
spec'ed machine and large capacity discs. Further, those sort of next gen
games will never be supported by the next gen portable.

What if their next gen portable system could handle current gen console
games?

What if they intend to limit their next gen consoles to current specs for
games (480p max) so that all current and next gen system games could play on
their next gen portable system too?

Plus what if they were planning another propriety storage system like their
current discs? [does anyone know the answer to this one?] A system that
would gives them excellent copy protection and could support both their next
gen consoles and portables?

Would that give them an advantage in their next gen portable business
against their competition - at the cost of limiting the resolutions of their
next gen console business?

They have always been "all about the business" haven't they?

Other thought: Developing such games will not require state-of-the-art
graphics engines and may support game development by smaller developers and
reduce the costs for all other developers - letting them in on N's next gen
consoles and portables with less up front costs. At the end of the day,
it's all about the gameplay, isn't it?

[Although I hope they at least support 480p on their next gen console.]
