Back in the Eighties, my employer decided to send out 3,000 Collins 
Street Bakeries Pecan Cakes as Christmas / Oshogatsu gifts for key 
Japan-based clients and suppliers.  The shipment was impounded because 
the cakes contained a preservative or additive not allowed into Japan 
under JIS regulations.  The list of restricted additives was, of course, 
top secret and could not be shared with mere mortals, much less gaijin. 
  When we went to the then Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to 
inquire further of the top bureaucrat, there was a Collins Street Bakery 
box on his desk along with a "Compliments of the Season" card from the 
head of Narita Customs sitting on the man's desk ...
