So why is it that I get handed every other kind of flyer when I'm out? The
flyer giving-out people give me flyers for temp agencies, for glasses stores,
for "massage" parlours, even for English lessons. If I so much as show an
interest in the display of cel phones, the guy handing out the cel-phone
brochure is in my face with a brochure and asking me questions. But like
Michael, I've had nothing but the statue impersonation from the credit-card
people. It must be quite a coincidence that about the only flyer-handing-out
people that are afraid to speak with foreigners are the ones who give out
credit card apps.

How do they know that he isn't? Besides, the application-taking people
aren't in charge of approving or declining credit applications. Are
they asking the Japanese customers their salary, job, current
debt load, and other similar factors before deciding whether they are
qualified to receive an application?
