I don't know. It's been a long time since I was young enough to find
that to be adventure material or had the interest to try. I can think
of a lot of silly reasons and a few sinister ones. Everything from
return address collecting to getting someone else to do your research
for you ... or maybe just Outland in a different wrapping (but not this
time).
Basically, there was no self intro, no reason why you should want to
help given, and the message was posted via Google Groups, which is a
sort of reddish colored flag / waving dirty hanky in some parts of
Usenet I frequent. The messages are, in fact, coming from a posting
host in Singapore, so part of the story checks out.
When in doubt, it may be better to leave posts like the above (assuming
there is threading capability in your version of Outhouse Excuse)
unanswered. I doubt there is any connection between the recent rise in
spam hitting the NG and this poster.
