ある夕方のこと、若い女性がデートから帰ってきま
した。ちょっぴり悲しそうです。彼女は母に告げまし
た。『アンソニィが、1時間前にプロポーズしたのよ』

『じゃぁ、なぜそんなに悲しそうなの？』彼女の母
は訊きました。
『と言うのは、彼は無神論者だと私に言ったのよ
お母さん、彼は地獄があることも信じていないわ』
彼女の母は応えました。『とにかく、彼と結婚しな
さい。内緒だけど、私達が彼がどんなに間違って
いるかを教えてあげましょう』
