Add my name to the list.
If I didn't catch a glimpse of the tv or the newspaper headline in the
break room at work, I would have no idea of the extent of the
earthquake. I couldn't pick Britney Spears out of a police lineup, and
haven't picked up on the Korean boom.
I absolutely thoroughly fucking hate and despise Japanese television
with a totally irrational all-consuming passion, for one thing. And
for another, a couple of years ago I decided that for the most part I
would just tune the news right out of my life. I look at the headlines
on the google news roundup, and that's about the total extent of my
awareness of what's going on in the world.
A couple of weeks ago, my wife started telling me about whatever the
latest gruesome shocking murder in Japan is, and I cut her off. I told
her I intentionally avoid it in the media, and I don't want to discuss
it at home either.
The world's going to spin, whether I watch it doing or not.

Ahhhh....those were the days.....
