Ask someone at your place of work who has kids about their family dentist -
children are pretty good as barometers of friendly or not-so-friendly
dentists. My - go to when something goes wrong with my teeth in Japan -
dentist is a woman (gentle hands - especially with the hypodermic) and
always has plenty of kids waiting to see her.
For a regular filling I think you'll be ok - just make sure that the surgeon
reaches for the anesthetic before he/she reaches for the drill. A lot of
dentists have this - you're a big man and this is just a small filling so no
need for an anesthetic - attitude. Screw that! If they refuse you just get
up and leave. Expect to be called back in the following day to have the
filling polished - now....that can make your stomach turn.
