I stayed in house which only housed gaijins during the two years I
lived in Japan. I never saw an NHK collector while I lived there.
Previous generations of residents had obviously made an impression. My
BS antenna was also in a location which wasn't visible from the
street.

The Watchtower person was a slightly different matter though - she
apparently had been particularly selected for her English-speaking
skills ("My name is Takahashi ..."). It was only the inertia of the
door which limited my reaction time to 2 seconds.
