Greetings , XP should install a workable driver for your common sound
card/ onboard chip -

If not

here is the win2000 driver for your sound chip - XP is based upon
win2000 platform. THis driver is for win9x as well , so seems for all
os versions.

This site will get you all required data on your system
but for XP i recommend a fresh installation rather than a upgrade from
an existing installed win98me.
You still need the original oem win98me disk, or whatever win9x legal
disk you have been using
Also highly recommend upgrading RAM memory by adding a 128MB module to
the base memory 64MB. XP is more memory intensive than win9x - if more
