Tecra 8000 battery reset?
I have a PII 300Mhz Tecra 8000 and four batteries that
don't work right.
One shows over 11 volts at the terminals marked + and -.
When plugged in to charge with the laptop off, the
battery LED will be orange for a long time then turn
OFF instead of changing to green. When plugged in and
running, the charge meter will go up to about halfway,
then change to N/A. Once it goes to N/A, pulling the
AC cord turns it off just like if there was no battery
installed.
The second battery will act like it's charging with
the laptop off, same behavior with the LED going off
instead of green. What's odd is a voltmeter shows
absolutely no charge at all and it always shows N/A
in the power meter when it's running.
The other two show 4 or 5 volts on a voltmeter and
won't charge at all with the laptop on or off.
Is there any way to reset or reprogram the electronics
inside the batteries so they'll charge and properly
report their charge level to the computer?
All I need is one battery that works like it should,
even if it'll only run it for an hour or so. As
long as it goes to "full" then _doesn't_ do the
"vanishing act", that'll be good enough.
Since they're Lithium Ion, I'm NOT going to try
to hack together an external charger. That's a
good way to make sure that type of battery is
fried!
