A few years back I was at an orchestral concert (in Melbourne) and
sitting behind me was a group of Japanese male teenagers in some sort
of school or trip uniform. At interval I asked them (in Japanese)
where they were from. They went into a huddle, and after about a minute
a spokesman emerged and answered: "Japan". Never daunted, I pressed on.
Where in Japan? Where was their school? Another huddle. Finally an answer:
"Tokyo". I gave up, wished them a pleasant remainder of their visit, and
fled to the bar.
