Gum disease is becoming an epidemic in many areas in the world. An aging population, bad eating habits, and a lacking oral hygiene have been cited as reasons. Amongst the hardest hit are diabetics; twice as many diabetics have serious symptoms of gum disease disease vs non-diabetic adults. Bleeding and painful gums and persistent bad breath are only the tip of the iceberg; much more serious things are happening below the gum line that can lead to tooth loss or even serious diseases in other parts of the body, e.g. heart disease.
I am looking at identifying what the key issues are that plague adult diabetics that have gum disease. What have you done to fight gum disease up to now and how successful have you been? Has your dentist played a role in this battle against gum disease?
I am putting together an information package and program for diabetics with gum disease and would really value your input. Of course I would be happy to offer this program to you as a participant free of charge when it is completed.
