Hmmm... I suspect you have not completely uninstalled the program...
   Before reloading the software, have you really uninstalled
everything?....completely?

 Try this to get rid of everything related to this software:
      (These suggestions are for Windows XP, but, as I recall Windows 98,
these directions should be nearly the same.)
    1) uninstall the software with its *own* uninstall program,
    2) then go to the "Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs" to see if there
are any remnants of the program--and uninstall those, too, if there are,
    3) then check C:\Program Files to see if there is anything there.
There really should not be anything there that is part of this program!!  If
there is--delete it!
   Now the most important part:    Reboot the computer.  (Do NOT plug in
your camera...yet.  Do NOT reload any software--yet!)

 Now, after you've rebooted, follow the "install" directions that came with
the camera's software.
