I happened to flip through a book called something like "Eigo de trivia" in
the local bookshop today, and saw a section on the origins of "Gパン"
(jeans). The book claimed that this derives from "GI pants" since jeans were
introduced to Japan by American servicemen. Hmmm... I thought - and my
dictionary says the same - that it was just a shortened form of "ジーンパンツ".
Sounds more like a case of "ガセビア" to me.
