SOUTH LONDON RAPPER 'BEXLEY' WINS BBC 'BLAST' TALENT COMPETITION

Hello! My name is BEXLEY. I am a 17 year old student and I live in Croydon.
I rap and record my own songs.

I sent two of my songs to the BBC for their Blast competition where they
were looking for the UK's best new young musicians. I was surprised and
pleased when they phoned to tell me that I was the winner. My prize was two
days in London recording studio Overtones during August 2003.

This CD "Pass The Courvoisier" is one of the songs I recorded, with help
from the studio and the Asian Dub Foundation Education project. I wrote this
song last year when I was 16 for a competition organised by BMG Records to
find new British rap talent. I was one of the six finalists (the only girl!)
and performed at the record company's London HQ, where this song got a great
reaction from the audience, the judges (including Radio 1's Tim Westwood)
and other rappers. As a runner up, BMG gave me a huge bottle of Courvoisier
(though I am not yet old enough to drink it).

Since then, I have been featured in Hip Hop Connection magazine, I have been
mentioned in Music Week magazine, I have rapped live on Kiss FM radio in
London, and I have performed live at a youth anti-crime concert in Brighton.
When I lived there last year, I was a member of the Audio Active music
education project, which taught me a lot about performing and recording
music.

I was born in London but I have also lived in Jamaica and North America. I
like to travel and I have visited Europe and India. I would like to visit
Japan next. I want to continue making my own music and to make positive
statements for young people like me.
