I'm reminded of those conversations - we've all hand one - where the 
Japanese person tried valiantly to speak to us in English, whilst at the 
same time we replied in, perhaps not sufficiently polite, but nevertheless 
grammatically and syntactically correct Japanese.

Then it dawns upon the Japanese person that perhaps they can stuff the 
English and launch forward with a barrage of overly-verbose mother tongue. 
Our heads start to spin and we wish the missus (or high school age child) 
had come with us.
