It may depend on your current visa status, but I've never needed
anything special like that. To the best of my recollection I just take
my passport, ARC, and a bunch of documents from my company (mine is a
work visa). Certainly no copies of tax returns, or anything from the
shiyakusho (getting anything from them means taking a day off from
work, so I'd remember). Best bet would be to call the immigration
office and ask them. The only personal financial information I recall
needing was just my laughable monthly salary figure.
