Keyboard or Power Problem
I have an odd problem with a Tecra 9000 that could be either power
related or keyboard related.
The problem *ONLY* occurs when operating on battery power. When the AC
supply is plugged in (with or without the battery installed)
everything works just fine. (Windows 2000 pro) But if I try to start
on battery power only I get this error message:
*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Channel Check / IOCHK
*** The system Has Halted ***
If I start with the AC supply plugged in and the battery installed the
system will, as indicated above, run normally. If I unplug the AC
supply things appear normal untill I move the pointing stick, when I
then get the above error message. If an external mouse is installed it
will function but as soon as I touch the pointing stick the error
shows up. I have also tried another battery with the same results.
In an effort to verify that the battery is in good condition I have
booted into "Command Prompt Only" safe mode, removed the AC supply and
the system will run for hours if I don't touch the pointing stick. I
have also tried running a different hard disk that has a clone copy of
this system that predated this problem.
I am thinking it is a keyboard problem but am open to other possibilities.
Any information, suggestions or WAGs appreciated.
