It was a weird thing. I was setting up a summer program option in
Sapporo, and the only people I knew in Sapporo were the actual
business partners. I contacted a consular official who had been
referred to me via a chamber of commerce acquaintance, and for a 2nd
opinion, since he had taken considerable interest in a hotel I had
stayed in while in Tokyo (the same one that had turned him and others
away) near Kabukicho, contacted the crusader to see if he was free for
a drink. Arranged to meet him at the kaisatsuguchi at Nakajima-koen
(he wasn't there when I arrived), eventually found him near an exit (I
looked for a gaijin). Went to a nearby well known restaurant that I'd
wanted to go to for a while, and was surprised that he didn't know it
- even though its been there since the 1990's at least. For someone
who lives in Sapporo, he doesn't know many places - I guess he doesn't/
can't eat out much. Asked him a few questions about locations, real
estate prices, realtors etc, and instead received his 90 minute long
party piece/view of life/everyone is out to get me etc.
