Palin won't have to reveal finances until after Biden debate

The Federal Election Commission on Thursday granted Sarah Palin a 
four-day extension of the deadline for revealing her personal finances, 
allowing her to wait until the day after her debate with Democrat Joe 
Biden to file the required forms.

The federal financial disclosure report was initially due Monday. Now 
Palin has until Oct. 3, the day after her debate in St. Louis with 
Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Earlier this month, 
Biden released a decade of personal financial records that showed the 
veteran U.S. senator from Delaware earned less than many of his 
congressional colleagues.

Bush's bailout meeting ends in disarray; McCain gets blame

Congressional negotiators’ carefully-crafted agreement on a $700 billion 
rescue plan threatened to unravel Thursday as lawmakers at an often 
tense White House meeting clashed over details.

As Republican presidential nominee John McCain looked on, House 
Republican Leader John Boehner raised concerns that the plan would be 
too costly to taxpayers, and offered an alternative plan.Democrats were 
mad. "What this looked like to me was a rescue plan for John McCain," 
said Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd of the 
Republican objections.

Officer: Military Demanded Torture Lessons

The Iraqi prisoner had valuable intelligence, U.S. special forces 
believed, and they desperately wanted it. They demanded that expert 
American military trainers teach them the same types of abusive 
interrogation techniques that North Korea and Vietnamese forces once 
used against U.S. prisoners of war.

The trainers resisted, according to testimony prepared for a Senate 
hearing Thursday; the methods were intended to elicit confessions for 
propaganda use, rather than gather intelligence. They were overruled and 
ordered to demonstrate on the prisoner in September 2003, early in the war.
