I don't know if this is your problem, but the story I heard goes like
this. Lots of people were going to be laid-off my Toshiba and they knew
it. And it least one model, had at least four different versions and
chipsets. And one recovery CD wouldn't work if they didn't match. Even
if the model numbers were the same with a different chipsets. And many
laptops came with the wrong one.
