Thanks for the reply.

I've considered opening it up, but i'm a little hesitant.  Since I
moved, the manual can't be located.  Probably didn't explain how to do
it anyhow.

Looks like the PCMCIA slots eject button is held on by the same cover
that holds the DVD in,  and I have springs missing from the PCMCIA
door.  

Unless someone can explain exactly how it's done, i'll wait until i've
replaced the laptop before I mess with it.  

Generally after I reboot about 3 times or less, the CD doesn't apear
in My Computer, and then I could leave it on all day and it wouldn't
freeze up.
