The 2005 Japanese Language Proficiency Test will take place on Sunday,
December 4, 2005 - see http://www.jflalc.org/

the application period is Aug 1-Oct 7

the above website provides very good information about all four levels of
this test (Level 1 is most difficult)

anyone who can pass Level 1 with the required 70% score is clearly very
proficient in this language - I think that Level 3 or 4 may be required for
some tourist-related jobs in Honolulu, for example - a person passing Level
1 may choose to take the Jetro (business) test, to demonstrate business
Japanese proficiency

I like this test because it appears to be objective and to be a good measure
of proficiency - I wonder whether such a test might be available for other
languages as well?
