BTW, if the comparison had been against US cinema, I would not have disagreed.
I can see American crap on the shelves in Japan I wouldn't see at home even at
Blockbuster, and do not doubt why it did not make it into any local theater.
As I said, if I want to watch mediocre movies (or even movies so bad I enjoy
them), there is more than enough selection just from English language films,
which probably make up about 40% of everything on local shelves (with the
remainder about 25% animation, 20% domestic live action of all genres, and 20%
porn - I know it doesn't round exactly).
